SUPA has been zooming since March 2020. When the pandemic started we wanted to create a positive, welcoming, Safe At Home learning space for some of the most vulnerable living amongst us. We started with a no cost Daily Shine Class. For the first 2 months ,during stay at home orders, we danced together each day for 30 minutes. It was a great way to keep everyone's spirit's up and still have social interactions. Those Daily Shine Classes turned into a fully virtual Summer Camp for 3 months (Summer of 2020). At the Summer Camp we did Acting, Healthy Eating, Arts and Crafts, Work Out Class, ASL Lessons, and Dance Parties! During the school year we've changed the classes up just a little as students are also doing other school activities and we don't want to overload them. We went from 80 classes a month for Summer to 76 classes a month Fall and Winter. Okay, so that's still a lot to choose from. For a low monthly fee you can take as many as you want! The Daily Shine Class is still FREE for everyone. It is Noon - 12:30 PST. We have students joining us almost every day from not just California but also all over the Country and we even have students joining from Guatemala. We've gained regular students from Texas, Tennessee, South Carolina, Kansas, etc. The pandemic has helped fast track expanding our reach!
Last Summer, because we were still on Stay At Home orders in Los Angeles, we decided to do an every Friday Night Dance Party. It turned out to be a great success! Families would join together and decorate their homes like dance clubs with cool lighting. We would have up to 100 families joining in every Friday Night. Because of that success, we have been hired by other like minded companies to host their virtual parties as well. We did a Christmas Holiday party for New Directions Travel and we also co-hosted a Valentines Day Party with Leaps N Boundz. We were also hired by a corporate office to surprise one of the executives for their Birthday, with a performance from our AllStars and a dance party, all virtual.
On any given year we perform for dozens of events. This year most of those events went virtual, so instead of doing our performances in person we did most of them virtually. We pieced together a video for VSA Orange County and Segerstrom Arts Center for National Dance Day. The Aquarium of the Pacific did a LiveStream event where Robin Olive, John Tucker and Marcia Landeros were able to perform in January '21. And this past April '21 the Music Center in Los Angeles showcased SUPA in a very special music video "All We Need To Breath" for the opening of the VSAF virtual show. SUPA's AllStars filmed the video in February with all Covid Compliance.
Disappointed we're missing 2 end of year recitals (2020 and 2021) we decided to film our Aladdin show virtually. All students were filmed in costume in their own homes through Zoom. The release of that performance is coming in June! Stay tuned!
As things slowly start coming back to some kind of normalcy, and students and their care givers are getting the vaccine, we will also slowly et to more in person activities. But for now we are going to continue with our Zoom classes at least through Summer 2021.
